Update on Aayush's Surgery !

Hello everybody,

Apologies for not updating the blog for so long. I have been extremely busy with Aayush’s post surgery therapy. Aayush’s operation was successfully conducted on October 16, 2009.

The hearing machine (The Cochlear Implant) has been switched on and Aayush can now respond to various kinds of sounds. I’m extremely excited to say that there’s a twinkle in his eye whenever he recognises a sound.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your tremendous support and encouragement. These happy times have come only because of your love and support. Will update the blog shortly.

Thanks again!

Surgery postponed

Hi all,

First of all apologies for not updating the blog for so long. There has been some progress with the collection of funds for Aayush’s operation. 21st June was decided as the date when the doctors would start Aayush’s surgery but we are still falling short of funds because of which we have to postpone the surgery.

Some days back we had another meeting with our doctor and he has asked us to hurry up, as there are chances that the price of the equipments and machine might increase. We are trying our best and we hope we will succeed soon with your help.

Again we would like to thank each and every one of you who has contributed and taken to effort to spread the word about this blog.

HELP AAYUSH

Aayush Nadkarni is 13 months old and lives in Malad, a suburb of Mumbai, India. He has a rare genetic disorder known as Waardenburg Syndrome with severe to profound hearing impairment. His family comprises of his parents Mr. Aniket Nadkarni and Ms. Vinita Nadkarni. Aniket is working with the Bawa Group of hotels. Aayush is alert and reacts to sounds, which he hears with hearing aids on both ears.

He has to be fitted with special hearing aids so that he can undergo language and speech training. Aayush will be required to undergo surgery for fitting of a Cochlear Implant. This is necessary to give him normal hearing and a normal lifestyle like other children. It will also aid him in acquiring normal speech. There are very encouraging results with children who have cochlear implants. They are attending normal school and speaking more than one language fluently.

We recently came across a very encouraging report, which says more than 50 children who have cochlear implants and attending normal school are speaking more than one language fluently.

In order to provide an implant, his parents will be required to spend a substantial amount for the implant, hospitalization, post implant training etc.

The total estimated cost for the implant, hospitalization & post implant therapy is Rs 9, 95000 (INR Nine Lakh Ninety Five Thousand) which, when converted to US Dollars, amounts to approx USD 19750.

Cochlear Implant – INR 8, 90000
Hospitalization, Surgeon's fee – INR 70, 000
Post-implant training - INR 25,000/-
Pre-Surgical Investigation - INR 10,000/-

We solicit your financial assistance for Aayush by inviting monetary contributions.

2) Spread the word and request people to donate money: Forward this link to as many people on your list so that people get to know about this. The amount required to be collected is large and the time is less; hence it will really help if more and more people come forward to help us.

3) You could also help us by sharing information such as important contacts, Hospitals, NGOs, charitable institutions or corporates who would like to help us out.

4) If you know of any hospitals or healthcare institutions who provide assistance in terms of providing implants, please let us know.
